Gurgaon, July 29 2009.
After rigours of the services, and the values imbibed through the training and development of the highest order, here is a group of 48 armed forces officers, 8 are women, are undergoing a well tailored executive management programme for a second career after retirement. The placement season has begun August 01, 2009 .
Some have flown aircraft, some rode tanks and some sailed submarines, on the verge of hanging their uniforms they are already masters of corporate lingo and gunning for a career in the civil haven.
“After serving the battlefields and facing the enemy on the LOC, serving the corporate jungle would sure be fun and rewarding for the employer and the employee,” quipped Lt Col(Retd) Ashutosh Bhagat of the Indian Army’s 12 JAKRIF at the Management Development Institute (MDI) here.
“The course provides an opportunity to showcase the multifarious skills of these future corporate warriors and will enable them to settle down to a satisfying second career, for some at the age of 27, for others in their mid- fifties,” said Sqn Ldr Saurabh(Retd) for whom mighty Mirages was a home like that of a fish to water.
It is not surprising that some of the course participants have mastered the art of marketing where corporate HR teams have willingly hired at packages of up to Rs.2 million, while middle level officers leaving after a five-year stint in the armed forces are following at their heels at Rs1-1.5 million.
MDI placement pundit, Brig. RK Sharma, an aviator, a soldier and an administrator par excellence, is very hopeful of a good response from the industry, panning the entire globe.
“This is perhaps the only place where the recruiters can get so many disciplined, experienced and focused solution providers, all under one roof,” was his take in an informal tete-a-tete with industry honchos.
At MDI, the participating officers pay close to Rs.100,000 for the six-months intensive course which proves beyond doubt, the sincere endeavour towards value addition to their selves in order to be of significane to their prospective employers.
MDI, 'The Change Makers', themselves vouch for the excellent talent here! And we are here to take their faith to even higher echelons.
